Unknown to the some, Google has age requirements on Google Accounts which technically prevent children from using most of the Google services. There has been development in the area via Googles Family Link which now supports the creation of Google Accounts for children. One application which can really be a lifesaver for many parents who’s children are currently using YouTube without any controls, is YouTube Kids.
YouTube kids is an application for your phone or tablet which you can find via GooglePlay and Apple AppStore, as Google mentions in their page:
“YouTube Kids gives your family an easy way to watch their favorite shows, or explore anything that captures their imagination. It’s free, simple to use, and full of family-friendly videos.”
There is some setup when you first start the App, once your child has watched a few videos the app will start recommending videos on the home screen based on terms they’ve searched for and video’s they’ve watched. YouTube don’t manually review all the videos so It’s possible your child may find something you don’t want them to watch. If you find a video you’re concerned about, you can block it or report it to YouTube via the app. They give you the option of enabling or disabling the search feature. Please keep in mind there is always a chance your child may find something you don’t want them to watch.
